Background
The Wilbur J. Cohen Building is a federal building that was constructed
in 1939 to house the Social Security Board and the Railroad Retirement
Board. It is currently home to the U.S. International Broadcasting
Bureau and the Department of Health and Human Service.
The Cohen building is currently classified as an average class
C office rental space. Kinoo, Inc. was hired by GSA to conduct a
feasibility study for upgrading the building.
Kinoo is currently doing various circulation, space planning, HVAC
and mechanicals studies that will make the building more efficient,
achieve a high LEEDs rating, with a better work environment with
more sunlight. The studies take into account historic preservation
issue as the Cohen building is eligible for listing on the National
Register.
